SAE Formula Hybrid Team

The 2017/2018 SAE Formula Hybrid race team is charged with designing and manufacturing a high-performance hybrid vehicle for competition with a focus on fuel efficiency, sustainability, and speed. This project provides students with an opportunity to use practice and theory from the classroom for a real-world problem. Since 2009 LTU has placed second in the world twice. We would like to continue our success and get back on the podium.

This semester we were able to get the rolling chassis completed. What this means is that we have completed everything that would allow you to drive the car if it were rolling down a hill. Below are some images of the team getting the chassis all tacked up to then be welded together.

So for next semester the team will focus mainly on the body, powertrain and electrical subsystems. Some big purchases that will have to be made are body molds, custom gearbox gears and various low voltage components. Next semester will be more challenging, but our team is ready to do anything to achieve our goals.

Choose a giving level

Level 1

Level 1 donations will help the team buy necessary tools, hardware, and other odds and ends.

Level 2

Level 2 donations will help the team purchase fittings, bushings and small electrical components

Level 3

Level 3 donations will help the team purchase various materials to fabricate and build components

Level 4

Level 4 donations will help the team with getting to the competition. We have a lot to transport to our competition in May that will cost a hefty penny. In addition this money will be used for the various materials and components mentioned in the lower levels.
