Blue Devil Robotics

Lawrence Technological University’s Blue Devil Robotics is a team competing in the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) competition against 30+ top universities from around the world. MATE ROV’s annual competition tests the abilities of underwater vehicles to safely complete tasks related to underwater inspection and repair, maintenance of healthy waterways, and preservation of history through underwater artifact extraction. This year, the competition is focused on maintaining and cleaning aquatic environments with challenges ranging from removing garbage to monitoring coral health and removing invasive organisms. Blue Devil Robotics will demo their robot at competition in mid-May, with the international competition taking place in Villanova Pennsylvania in late June.

Our team is engineering a remote operated vehicle with automated systems capable of self-stabilization and movement in an underwater environment. Additionally, this system will complete several of the tasks autonomously. Image processing, gyroscopes, accelerometers, and various other sensors will provide the framework for controls, with servo and thrust motors providing motion. This year’s 13 team members are using the competition to fulfill the requirements of their senior capstone project.

Sponsorship Request:

Our goal this year is to raise $10,000 in monetary donations. These donations provide the funds for components such as:

  • Cameras
  • IMU sensor
  • Thruster Motors
  • Servo Motors
  • Controllers
  • Build materials (mechanical/electrical)
  • Fabrication Costs and Benchtop Tools
  • Travel Costs

This capstone project is the culmination of our undergraduate experience. Using all of the skills and knowledge we have built over the past few years, we will be putting endless hours into this project to not only come prepared to compete at competition, but to win! We need your help and support to make our aspirations for competition become reality!

As a sponsor, we would encourage you to come meet the team, network, and enjoy the competition. We plan on hosting project reviews for sponsors to see our progress. Sponsors will also have the opportunity for their names to appear on the robot.

Thank you for considering this proposal. To stay updated on team progress or for more information, you can reach out to our team captain, Ryan Woods, at The Blue Devil Robotics Team would welcome a partnership with you and look forward to hearing from you in the near future!

Sincerely, The LTU MATE ROV 2020 Team:
