Support the NEW Electric Motorcycle Racing Team
LTU's All New Team
The Electric Motorcycle Racing Team is the newest competition team at Lawrence Technological University and is entering its first year of design, manufacturing, and racing for the 2018-19 season. Our team is in the process of designing a 400 Volt all electric bike pushing nearly 150hp and a top speed of nearly 145 mph. The purpose of this fundraiser is to secure $10,000 for our battery development. The money will go towards the cost of cells, BMS, and material for water cooling jackets.
Although not a part of Blue Devil Motorsports, the Electric Motorcycle Racing Team consists of six former Blue Devil Motorsports team members, as well as five underclassmen engineering students, and one senior transportation design student. The team will be packing up their bike to head down to New Jersey Motorsports Park come June 2019. Here they will be exhausting their battery packs and testing their bike to the limit on the Thunderbolt Raceway. Our rider, Elliot Hayward will be riding side by side riders from all over North-America reaching top speeds of up to 155 mph all with hopes of being in Varsity Challenge Victory Lane 2019.
The team has contracted a public figure in the motorcycle media world, Elliot Hayward, to compete as our the motorcycle racer. Elliot has been riding for seven years and has amassed close to a quarter million kilometers. Throughout that journey he has been sharing the experience on his wildly popular YouTube Channel, Snowcat, gaining over 152 million views and nearly 900,000 subscribers. He loves riding at the race track and looks forward to starting a new chapter with the electric motorcycle team in its developing, testing, and racing!
In order to be a worthy team at the competition, we have decided to build a maximum operating voltage motorcycle of 400V. The heart of our bike will be our 400V battery module which we are currently designing from the ground up. Power delivery will be capable through a tried-and-true Parker PM Motor capable of 150hp. These motors are popularly used in electric bikes and are seen competing on world renown circuits such as the Isle Of Man (Most dangerous motorcycle race in the world). Our team will be building our motorcycle almost entirely from the ground up, including: custom battery packs, carbon fiber swingarm, chassis/body, and casted wheels. The success of our project is only made possible by the generosity and support from our partners and sponsors. The process of building our bike from the ground up is currently budgeted at $30,000.
The eMotoRacing℠ series is the premier zero emissions motorcycle road racing series in the US. The eMotoRacing℠ was established in 2014 to fill the demand for a zero-emissions motorcycle racing series that would demonstrate advanced and compact e-superbike technology and excitement. Though the fortunes of research, development, manufacturing, and testing are unpredictable. Competing University teams in this series include Rochester Institute of Tech, Virginia Tech, Penn State, University of Calgary, Sherbrooke University in Quebec, Ohio State, and the University of Michigan. Other programs such as Lawrence Techs are in their infancy.
